69 jobs lost after administrators sell Amscan International Ltd and associated companies

We are reading reports that joint administrators James Clark and Will Wright of Interpath Advisory sold Amscan International Ltd and associated companies including Sheffield-based costume seller Christy’s by Design Ltd and Ginger Ray Ltd to Baaj Capital LLP. Whilst this deal secured the jobs of 133 employees, it still left 69 people being made redundant.

Unfortunately, it is common for administrators to make immediate redundancies, without prior warning or any consultation process. A failure to follow a consultation process could lead to employees being able to claim compensation from an Employment Tribunal of up to 90 days’ pay. Such a claim could be pursued if:

  • 20 or more people were made redundant at the same workplace; and
  • There was no information and consultation process, or it wasn’t carried out correctly prior to making redundancies.

If you have been made redundant and need advice, contact our employment team confidentially now for more information.

There are strict Tribunal deadlines within which to pursue these claims, so you mustn’t delay if you believe you may be affected.
