£6,125 compensation for flight attendant
A flight attendant received £6,125 compensation settlement for severe, long-lasting injury to her thumb when trying to operate a defective trolley on a flight to the UK from abroad.
The attendant tried to pull out the trolley, which was laden with drinks cans, from stowage under the galley counter. Its castors stuck and she had to force it forwards. The trolley finally jerked towards her with full force, fracturing her right thumb on the lip of the counter. Her thumb immediately turned black and began to swell, which she believes was due to cabin pressure. On arriving in the UK she attended the local General Infirmary where X-ray results confirmed her thumb was fractured.
Jason London, a partner at Morrish Solicitors, negotiated her compensation settlement with the airline\’s insurers. The airline admitted liability and London confirmed earlier today that since the accident \”the airline has introduced a new system to certify that trolleys are fit for purpose.\”
The attendant praised the airline for being very fair with her compensation and for taking measures to improve the trolleys. \”The trolleys are still not perfect, but they are better,\” she said.
