A Pulmonary Embolism (PE) is a serious condition that occurs when a piece of the blood clot breaks off into the bloodstream and then blocks on of the blood vessels in the lungs, preventing blood from reaching them. If it is not treated quickly, it can be life-threatening.

DVT and PE together are known as venous thromboembolism (VTE).

Both DVT and PE require urgent investigation and treatment.
