Support for Victims of Tech Abuse
Tech abuse is a form of domestic abuse, which is carried out using digital technology and devices to control, pressurise, threaten or harm another person.
It is becoming increasingly common for perpetrators to carry out tech abuse on their partners. In fact, the domestic abuse charity, Refuge announced that in 2019 72% of women accessing its services had been subjected to tech abuse.
The Domestic Abuse Bill 2019 –20
The Domestic Abuse Bill 2019-20 received royal assent in April 2021 following a consultation on transforming the response to domestic abuse. Although the bill does not clearly refer to tech abuse, the redefined legislation does outline extra precautions for witnesses and survivors .

- Checking someone’s messages, social media activity or internet history
