CQC concerned over new East Kent hospital maternity findings
An article has been published by the BBC News detailing new findings by hospital inspectors with the CQC. Just four months after an independent investigation identified catastrophic failings in maternity care at the East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust between 2009 and 2020, an unannounced inspection has resulted in the CQC considering whether enforcement powers are required. They have not identified what concerns were raised following the inspection but have asked the Hospital Trust to respond with evidence of the steps that they are taking to ensure patient safety.
It is deeply concerning to hear that mothers and babies continue to be placed at risk despite the extensive independent investigation. The continued involvement of the CQC is vital to ensure the Trust are held accountable for the vast improvements necessary to their services.
