105 jobs at risk as Bawtry Carbon Ltd collapses into administration
We are sorry to read reports that the Doncaster-based manufacturer, Bawtry Carbon Ltd has collapsed into administration. This has resulted in the “majority” of the 105-strong work force being let go following failed attempts to find a buyer. Chris Petts and Philip Stephenson of Grant Thornton were appointed joint administrators. We are now working with former employees of the company.
Unfortunately, it is common for administrators to make immediate redundancies, without prior warning or any consultation process. A failure to follow a consultation process could lead to employees being able to claim compensation from an Employment Tribunal of up to 90 days’ pay. Such a claim could be pursued if:
- 20 or more people were made redundant at the same workplace; and
- There was no information and consultation process, or it wasn’t carried out correctly prior to making redundancies.
