International Decorative Surfaces Ltd (IDS) up for sale following administration

We are sorry to read reports that the UK’s largest distributor of decorative surfaces, International Decorative Surfaces Ltd (IDS), has been put up for sale after it collapsed into administration. This has resulted in the company making some of its 393 employees redundant.

IDS employed 393 staff at its 12 locations across its Newcastle-under-Lyme headquarters and sites in Nuneaton, Leeds, Warrington, Exeter, Fife, Gateshead, London, Ely, Norwich and Swindon. 11 sites are currently still operational.

Unfortunately, it is common for administrators to make these kinds of immediate redundancies, without prior warning or any consultation process. A failure to follow a consultation process could lead to employees being able to claim compensation from an Employment Tribunal of up to 90 days’ pay. Such a claim could be pursued if:

  • 20 or more people were made redundant at the same workplace; and
  • There was no information and consultation process, or it wasn’t carried out correctly prior to making redundancies.

If you have been made redundant and need advice, contact our employment team confidentially now for more information.

There are strict Tribunal deadlines within which to pursue these claims, so you mustn’t delay if you believe you may be affected.
