Bradford Royal Infirmary Admit Negligence

Bradford Royal Infirmary have admitted that they were negligent when they sent a 41 year old man home from the Accident and Emergency department with laxatives after he went there several times complaining of constipation and abdominal pain. In fact Mr McAllister was suffering from diverticular disease but the hospital failed to diagnose his condition with the result that his bowel perforated and he needed an emergency operation and had to have a colostomy bag fitted. Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has admitted that his treatment was below standard and that if they had done something sooner his condition could have been treated with intravenous antibiotics.

Jane McBennett at Morrish solicitors in Bradford, who is acting for Mr McAllister said: ‘I am delighted that the hospital has admitted that it was at fault. Their mistake has caused my client an enormous amount of distress. He has had to undergo nearly three years of continuous medical treatment and has suffered unpleasant complications and side effects. We will work with him to ensure that he is properly compensated for all the disruption and the money we secure for him will help him to get his life back on track’
