Case study: Successful Protective Award claim for former Euramax employees

Almost £370,000 compensation recovered for 136 affected.

Barnsley-based windows and doors manufacturer, Euramax Solutions Limited, went into administration in February 2024, resulting in some 200 employees being made redundant. We represented 136 of those employees.

The business was suffering from financial difficulties, due to the reduction of sales in holiday homes following the pandemic. In June 2023 the company also suffered a bad debt of £620,000 which had an immediate impact on the working capital of the company and created cashflow issues as the debt was not credit insured.

There were no attempts made to appoint, inform or consult with appropriate representatives before redundancies were made.

As a result, in November 2024, the Employment Tribunal ruled in favour of the former employees, awarding them a 90-day protective award which is the maximum award permitted under this type of claim. We have managed to recover almost £370,000 for all 136 employees.

The group was represented by Erin Garnham, a protective award specialist in our employment team. Erin commented:

“After a very stressful time for the former employees of Euramax, who were made redundant very suddenly without notice, I am delighted that we have recovered compensation for them to finalise what has been a worrying period.”

Our employment law team has helped thousands of former employees of insolvent companies recover compensation, including high profile cases against Thomas Cook, Phones4u and Citylink.
