Hundreds of jobs lost as Alderley PLC enters administration

We are sorry to read reports that the Gloucestershire-based engineering firm, Alderley PLC, has entered administration resulting in the loss of hundreds of jobs. The assets and property of the firm, which owned Alderley Systems Ltd (ASL) and Specialised Management Services Limited (SMS), are now being managed by joint administrators Alistair Wardell, Richard Lewis and Rob Parker from Grant Thornton. The combined businesses are thought to have employed more than 450 staff.

Unfortunately, it is common for administrators to make immediate redundancies, without prior warning or any consultation process. A failure to follow a consultation process could lead to employees being able to claim compensation from an Employment Tribunal of up to 90 days’ pay. Such a claim could be pursued if:

  • 20 or more people were made redundant at the same workplace; and
  • There was no information and consultation process, or it wasn’t carried out correctly prior to making redundancies.

If you have been made redundant and need advice, contact our employment team confidentially now for more information.

There are strict Tribunal deadlines within which to pursue these claims, so you mustn’t delay if you believe you may be affected.
