Redundancies made after Electrolytic Plating Company Ltd (The) falls into administration

We are sorry to read reports that the Walsall-based manufacturer, Electrolytic Plating Company Ltd (The), has collapsed into administration after struggling with several financial challenges since the pandemic.

It is reported that two divisions of the firm have been carved out and rescued after joint administrators, Kerry Bailey and Lee Causer of BDO, secured a sale to Wolverhampton Electro Plating. However, the remaining business has ceased to trade with an unknown number of staff made redundant.

Unfortunately, it is common for administrators to make these kinds of immediate redundancies, without prior warning or any consultation process. A failure to follow a consultation process could lead to employees being able to claim compensation from an Employment Tribunal of up to 90 days’ pay. Such a claim could be pursued if:

  • 20 or more people were made redundant at the same workplace; and
  • There was no information and consultation process, or it wasn’t carried out correctly prior to making redundancies.
