DVT and Pulmonary Embolism Negligence Claims

According to Thrombosis UK up to one in every 1,000 people are affected by Venous Thrombosis each year. If you or a loved one have suffered a Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) or Pulmonary Embolism (PE) as a result of negligent medical treatment, or if a DVT/PE were not diagnosed in time, you could be entitled to make a claim for compensation.

What is DVT and Pulmonary Embolism?

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot in one of the deep veins in the body. DVT usually occurs in a deep vein in the leg that runs through the muscles of the calf and thigh. It can cause pain and swelling in the leg.  If left untreated, about 1 in 10 people with a DVT will develop a Pulmonary Embolism (PE).

A Pulmonary Embolism (PE) is a serious condition that occurs when a piece of the blood clot breaks off into the bloodstream and then blocks on of the blood vessels in the lungs, preventing blood from reaching them.  If it is not treated quickly, it can be life-threatening.

DVT and PE together are known as venous thromboembolism (VTE).

Both DVT and PE require urgent investigation and treatment.
