1. Compare Conveyancing Quotes – When gathering conveyancing quotes from firms make sure you compare your quotes in detail ensuring they are like-for-like. A conveyancing quote should consist of two parts: the conveyancing fees and disbursements. The conveyancing fees are what the firm is charging for carrying out the conveyancing work. Most firms will charge a fixed fee for this, but some firms hide additional fees in the small print so make sure you check your quote in detail.  

Disbursements are fees payable to third parties, which your conveyancer will pay on your behalf. Some disbursements may need to be paid up-front at the start of your transactions. Other disbursements will be paid by your conveyancer and reimbursed by you when you settle your bill.  

Beware some firms may be optimistic when listing the disbursements, you must pay to make their overall quote seem cheaper than it is. On the other hand, some firms hide fees within disbursements therefore it’s important to check and compare the quotes in detail.
