Winn reelected to chair national asbestos watchdog
Julie Winn has been re-elected to Chair the Joint Union Asbestos Committee, a national union campaign group comprising representatives from the six major education sector trade unions and the four main general industry trade unions.
Speaking today of her re-election, Mrs Winn said “JUAC’s clear aims are attainable, and in my first year as Chair I was delighted to see how the group galvanises political will to draw attention to the serious issues underlying the presence of asbestos in UK schools.
“In the coming year I hope we will build further momentum and continue working closely with partner organisations to raise awareness and improve asbestos training and the management of asbestos in schools.
“Raising awareness and improving training in the management of asbestos are fundamental to health and safety in UK schools because 75% of all schools in the UK have buildings which comprise asbestos containing materials (ACMs), as shown by recent government figures.”
